Dear Parents,
Happy Thursday!! Well, I guess we finally got some much needed rain. I am sure this makes a lot of people happy. I am said it is not a warm as it was on Monday though. It has been a great week. We have missed a few classmates but I feel like the week went by pretty quickly.
Language Arts
We finished a story this week. The results will come home next week in their folders. I assigned the next and final book report of the year to them yesterday. Many have turned in the book they will be reading. Just a few are still looking. This report is due May 8th. I think it gives them a good 6 weeks to work on reading the book and creating the project. We also wrote letters to our Pen Pals at St. Mary's of Kickapoo in Illinois. We wrote letters during Catholic Schools and we got letters in return. I also visited the school over Spring Break and meant the kids and answered questions they had about the school. We wrote them again the last couple of days. Molly is taking the letter back with her and giving them to the class. I hope we hear from them one last time. Next week Language Arts will be hit or miss with the testing but I do plan on starting a new story and working in it when we have time.
Math
They took a test over Topic 5 This week. This covered division. They will be correcting the test on Monday. We will also start some different things to go along with fractions next week. They will learn about factors and multiples first. Those are important to know before we get going. This subject will also be hit or miss next week. I will fit it in when I can.
Social Studies
We just finished talking about the Ojibwe which is a tribe that lives in the Midwest. They mainly live in the Great Lakes areas. They learned about their culture, where the live, what they do for fun, how they earn a living, what they eat, and how they travel. We are moving on to talk about fur trading in the Midwest. We started that today. Social studies will still go as normal next week since it falls in the afternoon.
ISASP Testing
Next week we will be taking the Iowa Assessments. We will test on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. All testing will be in the morning. We will also get a snack provided by the PTO. Please be sure your child gets a good night sleep and hearty breakfast in the morning. I will be sure to provide a quiet testing environment. Please talk to your child about doing their BEST work. They took practice tests this week and they did not do very well at all.
Sedar Meal
We had the Sedar Meal today. It is the celebration of the Last Supper. My favorite part is that the whole school is present in the gym together sharing a meal.
Good Friday
Remember we do NOT have school tomorrow! Enjoy Good Friday with your family.
Stations of the Cross
We tried something new this year and thank goodness we did due to rain. The 6-8th grade put on the Station of the Cross for us. They had different rooms we went to for different stations and they also gave us an interactive booklet to complete. So at the end of each station there was something to draw or color in a booklet. The students should all bring their booklets home for you to see. It was a very nice way to view all the stations.
Take-Home Folders
There is a lot of important things coming home today. A soccer camp. letter about ISASP tests, and the Glow-a-thon information.
I hope everyone has a great weekend with family. I wish you all a very blessed Easter. I am picking up my granddaughter tonight because the daycare is not open tomorrow and my daughter and husband still have to work. They will get her back tomorrow. I plan to color Easter Eggs with her in the morning. I love starting traditions and making memories. I am hosting Easter this year so I will have a house full. I love every minute of it.
God Bless,
Mrs. Sickels
