Dear Parents,
Happy Thursday!! Here we are it's Thursday again. It has been a long week due to ISASP testing but we made it!!! Another year of testing complete. Next year instead of three tests they will have a 4th, Science is added for them. I feel like they did a good job following rules and doing what was expected of them. There were a few that rushed through and so I know not to expect much from their scores. Today was the Language Arts/writing one. They were expected to write a paper consisting of 3-4 paragraphs with 3-5 sentences per paragraph. I am not sure some did that.
Language Arts
We are wrapping up the story about the Beatles. We read the story the last time yesterday and took the selection test. Tomorrow we will take the end of the story test. We will start a new story on Monday. This last one was spread out due to the ISASP testing. This is the last module we will do, then we will read the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory together and use all the skills we have learned this year on a real live fiction book. I also intend to show the movie towards the end of the year. I do not show the most recent version with Johnny Depp, I show the one with Gene Wilder. There is also another movie that tells Willy Wonka's story of how he became a candy maker. It is also a great movie. I don't know that I will show that one. It is not in the plans to do.
Math
We started working on division with remainders yesterday. We will check the work and move on to the worksheet tomorrow. Then we begin our journey with partial quotient. They will love love love partial quotient and then they will not like long division like you and I do. We will spend some time on this topic. When we are done with division we will move into fractions for the end of the year.
Social Studies
I gave the students their study guide with answers today for chapter 9. The test will be tomorrow. They will need to be sure to study tonight. I skipped the part where they fill out the study guide to save us some time and move forward to the next region. We will start the Southwest on Monday. It is made up of 4 states, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas and Oklahoma. We will only do one map test over these states and it will be over states and capitals since there are only 4 of them. We will try to move pretty quickly through this region.
Mass
We have Mass on Wednesday. The Kids will be bringing their parts home tomorrow. They know what they are doing I have not got all things copied to give them. I will finish that up tomorrow. This is the last Mass that I plan for just the 4th grade. I can't believe it is here already.
Sedar Meal
We will celebrate the Annual Sedar Meal Thursday, April 17th. The entire school is in the gym at tables. We will walk through the Sedar Meal and then eat lunch. The students are asked to bring a sack lunch that day. Milk will be provided.
Crosswalk
The Crosswalk where we do the stations of the cross on the way to Holy Spirit Church is on Thursday, April 17th. The kids will need to wear a white t-shirt that day for the annual school photo in the church. They will also need the permission form filled out to go along. Anyone is welcome to join us on this pilgrimage to the church.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. I know soccer is in full swing and baseball/softball is starting up so have fun whatever you do thing weekend. I am going to get out my patio furniture so I can sit outside. I also may need to run the mower over my yard. I hate when the grass looks uneven. That is definitely happening right now. Yet, all of it is not green yet either. This weekend also begins Holy Week. Lent is almost over! Palm Sunday begins our final countdown to Easter.
God Bless,
Mrs Sickels
