Dear Parents,

Happy Friday!! It is finally up and running! Sorry I am a day late, gotta love technology!

The teachers worked on a service project today. We went and cleaned the church. We oiled up the pews to make them nice and shiny! Well as shiny as they could be! We wiped down the altar and everything in the front of church. There wasn't anything left that had not been touched except for things we could not reach! It really did not take us very long because there was so many of us working. We then enjoyed a coffee at Java J's and discussed Easter plans. It was a very nice way to spend our Friday. I hope the kids are all enjoying their day off as well!

Language Arts

We read a chapter out of the book "The World According to Humphrey". It is a story about a hamster who is a classroom pet and it goes home with the students for the weekend. It is about one weekend and the family he visits. There is a theme to the story. The theme is that we can shut the TV or electronics off and spend some time just visiting or playing games with each other. The kids really enjoyed the story. They did very well on the test also. The grammar lesson was over comparative ( -er or more) and superlative (-est and most) adjectives and adverbs. The vocabulary strategy was over context clues and multiple meaning words. We did the story in 4 days due to Thursday being so busy and no school on Friday. Next week we will get back to a normal work schedule for the week. The next story is a biography which is very good. I look forward to it. It is about women's right to vote.

Math

This week we have really worked on estimation in division. They have done a good job grasping this topic. We did work on remainders and what they mean. Sometimes the remainder is just a left over and sometimes the remainder is important if we re talking teams or groups or seating for people. Next week we will work on partial quotient. This will be something parents have not done so if they are struggling they will need to be sure to ask questions at school. They can also come in early in the mornings.

Social Studies

We just finished up our test over the first Midwest chapter in the book. They have been given maps to practice for a map test which will take place on Monday. They need to locate the 12 Midwest states and their capitals. It is just like the test they have taken in the past. We will beegin Chapter 9 on Tuesday. It will be over the Midwest also. We are doing very well in this subject to get us into the end of the year.

Sedar Meal/Crosswalk

I thought we had a great day yesterday! We began at 11:!5 with the Sedar Meal with the whole school in the gym together, which is my favorite part. We celebrated the Passover, then had lunch. The kids were mixed at tables with other kids of every age. We then met in the courtyard to begin our Crosswalk. The students participated in this with their Lenten Angels. We did the Stations of the Cross on the way to the church then finished them at the church. WE then came back to school and I had them start a movie. Which they were very much interested in. You could have heard a pin drop in my room for that 40 minutes. I may let them finish it next week if possible.

I hope everyone has a great Easter Weekend! Enjoy your family!

God Bless,

Mrs. Sickels
