Dear Parents,

Happy Thursday!! Now this week has definitely went fast since we didn't have school on Monday. I do feel like I was just typing this yesterday. We have finally gotten back into a rhythm since ISASP testing. Easter was a good short break. I feel like the kids are better this week so they must have needed that extra day.

Language Arts

We finished reading "Let's Dance Around the World" for the last time today. The kids took their selection tests. Tomorrow we will take a spelling Post Test and the end of the week test. It will focus on Text and Graphic features, and Text structure. Next week will start the last story we will read in the text. When it is done I plan to move on to reading Charlie and the Chocolate factory. We do that the last 2-3 weeks. I will show the movie when we are done. I shoe the movie with Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. I a not a fan of the newer one with Johnny Depp. We will apply all out skill we have learned to a fun book instead of one from a text book. The kids all really enjoy it.

Math

We are working on getting the hang of the standard algorithm of division. The only way to do it is to dive right in an practice, practice, practice. We will spend some time working on this strategy to be sure they have the hang of it. They really struggle following the process and knowing what to do next. The is the one you can help with at home. Mrs. Warner was in today during math and between her, Mrs. Jensen and myself, we were busy helping students. Maybe practice some problems at home over the weekend.

Social Studies

Today we finished lesson 2 of the Southwest. They had a worksheet to do. Tomorrow we will begin lesson 3. We will have a test coming up next week over this chapter. We are moving along quite well! I plan to move quickly though the next chapter also. This will ensure we at least get the map testing done for the West. Remember we will be taking the entire 50 states and capitals test at the end of the year.

Clean-Up Day

Tomorrow is our day to clean the grounds at St. Malachy weather permitting.. The 4th graders need to bring a rake with them to school and some gloves. Please be sure their names are on their rakes.

Fast Testing

Our Spring Fast testing is upon us. I will start testing the students next week. There is a section they do with me one on one and a section that is done on the computer with ear buds. Please check with your child to be sure they have ear buds.

Mrs. Sickels Absent

I will be out of the building on Monday. There will be a substitute in my room. I will be back on Tuesday.

I hope I have not forgotten anything. I hope everyone has a great weekend. I am gong to spend some time with my older daughters. On Sunday we will be attending the movie on Carlos Acutis the boy that was to be canonized as a Saint this April. It is only being shown for a couple of viewings at The Palm's. I am excited to see it. I think the canonization has been postponed due to the death of the Pope.
