Dear Parents,
Happy Thursday! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday. I had a great holiday week. My family was all at my house for Thanksgiving. This is the first year I have made a turkey without any help. It was not dry! But I need to work on my seasonings! It was a full house but a happy one for sure. We are slow to get back into the school routine but it is to be expected when we are off school that long. Advent is upon us and Advent Angels started yesterday. This is my favorite time of year for sure. The students are all the "older" angel this year. They did a great job yesterday for their first time. I am very proud of all of them.
Language Arts
This week we are reading a story called Hurricanes: Earth's Mightiest Storms. It is teaching us about how a hurricane forms and weather instruments that are used in weather prediction. The Article is full of charts an diagrams to help their learning. In grammar this week we ar working on my favorite thing! We are reviewing the difference in the use of to, too, and two, there, their, they're, its and it's. These are things that I want to correct on people's Facebook posts all the time. The kids did an excellent job with to, too, and two yesterday. We will see how today goes. The vocabulary strategy this week is about suffixes -full, -less, -ment, and -ness. Tomorrow is Friday and it will be normal one. They will be taking their spelling post test and end of week test like we always do. Be sure they study their yellow packet and spelling words.
Math
We are working on a "dress rehearsal" for topic 3 . It is longer than the first couple we have done. They are struggling to get it done. This is one assignment that is not allowed to be done at home for homework. They will have to start missing recess to finish it up. The reason is I want to be able to help them so I know where they are struggling. I plan to start checking this tomorrow with them so some might miss some recess today. We will be taking a test over topic 3 next week.
Social Studies
Next Wednesday the students will take a Northeast Map Test. This is just like the others they have done except they have to add the capital of the State. They will need to study their maps and capitals for next week. We are talking about the cities of the Northeast and how they are centers of Industry focusing on Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the steel industry. We also talked about cities with landmarks. We are nearing the end of our time with the Northeast states. The next regions will be the Southeast.
Book It Calendars
Calendars are due. I had 4 people remember them today. The rest of them have to be turned in by Monday to receive a reward.
Spirit Day
Tomorrow, Friday the 2nd is a Spirit Day!! Perfect day to pay $1.00 to wear sweatpants! Since the weather is cold not more hats. You can only pay $1.00 to wear sweats. I sure wish I could do that.
Christmas Program
Wednesday, the 7th is our Christmas Program in the High School Auditorium. We ask that students in band arrive at 6:00 and go the Band Room to warm up. Those not in band need to be in their seats around 6:15. Please wear you Sunday Best! We want to look nice for out program. I always loved buying new dresses for my kids to wear!
Also we will be transporting the students to the high School for Program practice. Please be sure to fill out the permission slip in today's folder so your child has permission to attend. Thank you
Mass and Noisy Change Collection
Next week is the 4th grade Mass. It is on Thursday instead of Wednesday because Thursday is a Holy Day. It is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Blesses Virgin Mary. It celebrates the day Mary was conceived. On this day we will also have another Noisy Change collection. The money goes to our Adopt-a-family. So remember your change next week
I feel like there is a lot going on right now. I hope I remembered to put everything in here! If I forgot to put something in here please let me know. Sunday I bent over and when I stood back up my back went out. I have been dealing with a bad back all week. Your children have been awesome for me. They jump to pick things up when I drop them. They worry about me and if it hurts. I have been to chiropractor twice, once on Tuesday and then again on Wednesday. I didn't go today and am feeling better. I am going back tomorrow to be sure its all in place. Again your kids have been wonderful and very helpful. I sure hope I am on the mend. There is a lot going on this weekend I want to do.
God Bless,
Mrs. Sickels
