Dear Parents,

Happy Thursday! It is hard to believe we are here! The end of this year. We will be back together in 2024. I feel like our time together has gone very quickly. I know to the kids it is slow but to me it is flying. We have kept pretty busy all week. I feel like we will leave each subject area at a good stopping place. These kids have been praying so hard for snow everyday. I feel bad, but I also hope their prayers work. I put a ton of pictures on our Facebook page today. If you have not connected with it yet, please search St. Malachy Fabulous 4th grade. I have to approve you. I will do it as soon as I see it.

Language Arts

We finished up the story I told you about last week. We finished it on Tuesday. The last few days they have been taking their module test. They have not done too badly on it so far. I hope that continues. We will see what tomorrow brings on the last section. I hope they have a chance to get some reading over break. Maybe Santa will bring them a good book. I plan to read a lot. I will give them their January Book It calendars tomorrow since they start January before they are back. The December calendars are due when they come back on the 3rd.

Math

This week we worked on an Area Model with larger numbers. I still have some that are struggling with this so we will review it when we return from break before we move on. We have spent the last two days doing Christmas pictures using coordinate pairs. It is a grid like is on the Battleship game. They follow directions based on those coordinates. They just randomly got a picture the first time, but the 2nd time they got to choose the one they wanted. We have listened to Christmas music while doing it. They have enjoyed singing along. Funny how loud they sing in the classroom.

Social Studies

We have begun learning about the Southeast states. We finished lesson 1 on the make up of the land. They are learning about the Coastal Plain, Piedmont, and Appalachian Mountains. They also learned about the Fall line. They are working on a worksheet to hand in tomorrow. That gives us a perfect end to the subject for break.

Friday, December 22

Tomorrow is the day! It is our last day together this year. We have a lot going on. We will finish up some testing in the morning first thing. Then we will have our Christmas party. Ava is supplying treats for our party. Will be playing games together and having fun. The dress up say is Ugly Sweater or your favorite Christmas shirt. The kids need to remember a sack lunch. Milk will be provided. They will eat with their Advent Angels. We will sing Christmas Carols with our partners and watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas the cartoon original version. When that is finished we will come back to the room and do a good clean up of the desks and the room. Then we will begin to watch a Christmas movie until the end of the day.

Christmas Break

Friday at 3:15 begins Christmas Break! I hope everyone has a great time celebrating with family and friends. I will see you back in class on Wednesday, January 3rd.

Thank You

I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the wonderful gifts! I have received some gifts for the classroom and some just for me. I love them all. It is very thoughtful of all of you. Merry Christmas to you all.

Mass

We have mass on January 3rd when we return so make sure you dress for Mass that day. It is a teacher-led mass that day.

I want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas! My kids will all be here on Christmas Day in the afternoon. I am excited to have them home and for them to open the gifts I have gotten them. Every year I am excited about that part. I also look forward to playing games and snacking. See you all next year! Happy New Year!

God Bless,

Mrs. Sickels
