Dear Parents,

Happy Thursday! Welcome to another 2 hour delay! I am done with it being so cold outside! Though I have enjoyed the snow on the ground finally. I am sure it will all melt away next week with the warmer temps. Crazy how we go from one extreme to another.

Language Arts

Well, due to the 2 hr. delays and trying to spread out 4 subjects in the mornings we are a day behind. The post test over homophones will be Wednesday, Feb. 26th now. I am surprised we are just one day off instead of two. The grammar lesson this week is on the homophones to, too, two, their, there, they're, its and it's. I love teaching this to the kids because I see so many misuses of these words on Social Media. I always want to correct the grammar in the comments, but of course I don't. The decoding skill we have worked on has been regular and irregular plurals. So looking at different singular nouns and deciding how to make the plural. There are many rules but they have done a good job working on it.

Math

Today we started learning the standard algorithm for double-digit multiplication. This is always a slow process. They always think they have it until they have to do the work on their own. Then they tend to forget how it goes. We will work on this for about 4-5 days and then we will move on. We will not take a test over this but we may take an informal quiz. It would just be a worksheet with like 10 problems on it to do.

Social Studies

We started chapter 8 today. This is the first chapter of the Midwest. We begin by talking about the waterways in the Midwest that help connect us to other regions. Then we will move on to talk about the Badlands in South Dakota. They are working on a vocabulary preview today. It covers all 9 words we will learn and discuss in this chapter.

Conferences

The Conference schedule came out via email on Monday. Please be sure to get signed up for the time you want. I have a bigger break window on some days because 20 minutes was not enough time to eat and use the restroom and be ready for the next conference. If you have multiple children and want to get them lined up I would jump on and get them done.

Needed!!

We are down to our last bottle of disinfectant wipes. I have had a couple students bring some in this week. If anyone else could add to it that would be great. If everyone brought in one container it would give me 23 more! I greatly appreciate the help.

End of Trimester

The end of the 2nd trimester is tomorrow February 21st. This means late slips will start over on Monday. All Corrections were due Wednesday of this week. If you find corrections in their Homework folders they can go away I will not accept them anymore. I am almost done correcting all of them. You will see lots of them in the take home folder this week and next. They will also have new seating in the lunchroom.

I hope all of you have a great weekend. I am attending an engagement party for my Best Friends' son Friday night. So I guess I'll get a night in Kansas City. I am so happy to be a part of the celebration. I will be back Saturday for my rest and relaxation. I will also be working on report cards. They will be coming out soon.
