Dear Parents,
Happy Thursday!! This has been quite the week for me. I am just all over the place. I was getting new flooring in my house which I am super excited about, but then the furnace quit on Tuesday night. So I have been without heat since then and staying at my mom's house. Which some of you would probably be shocked at the students who offered for me to come stay at their houses. My new furnace is being put in today and the flooring will be completely finished tomorrow. So my weekend will be putting my house back together!
Language Arts
First to let you know since we had a snow day, we will have spelling post test and end of the week test on Monday not tomorrow. I have explained this to the kids but I thought I better explain it to you also. I can't really do a story justice in 3 days. Four days is pushing it. So Monday will be our Friday. Then we will do next week's story in 4 days also.
This week we are reading Hercules' Quest. It is a Greek Myth about Hercules. The students have enjoyed this story. It should show on our end of the week test. I hope! The grammar lesson will be over Prepositions and prepositional phrases. This is a hard topic to teach but they usually do get the hang of it. I feel like this is kind of above 4th graders. We are not doing the vocab strategy this week it is a review and with me needing to shorten the week it works to just not do it.r I do hope to fit in the movie Hercules during this 4 days also
So over the weekend your child will need to study their yellow packets and spelling words for Monday!
Math
We finished the last lesson in Topic 4 today. We will b reviewing next week. We also may be taking a test by the end of the week. Which is great so we can begin Topic 5 which is division. We will need to take this slow because division really is just learning a process. It is the one method that is very hard to grasp it and make sense of what you are doing. We will learn more than just the standard way that you learned. So bear with us.
Social Studies
We finished up a longer lesson on the Civil War and its effects on the Southeast. We will be working on a study next week and then a test. We will also take another Map Test before Spring Break. So any chance they have to study their maps I would begin doing that daily. After Spring Break we will move into the Midwest Region. We have 3 regions to go by the end of the year. We will pick up the pace a little more so that we ensure we get there.
Conferences
I have emailed all of you my conference sign-up link. A lot of you have all ready signed up. On the sign-up I had mentioned that if you have a band student you should look at times at 1:30 on the 10th so you are here for your child's solo. Your student will be judged that day in the band room. They are hoping to coordinate times with your conference time.
I have added 8 extra slots for a conference on Tuesday or Wednesday. Remember there will not be school at all on the day of conferences (the 10th) and also No School on Friday the 11th. Here is the link to my sign-up in case you have not seen it.
Spirit Day
Tomorrow is a spirit day! Pay $1.00 to wear sweats! What a great day to wear sweats too. I would prefer sweats over jeans any day!!
What a short week! It really messes with my plans when we miss day. I hope everyone has a great weekend! Ms. Surma and I are taking a nice trip to Des Moines to get our nails done and see a movie with Molly and a college friend. We are looking forward to our girls day out!
God Bless,
Mrs. Sickels
