Dear Parents,
Happy Thursday! It is Catholic Schools Week and we are in full swing! Honestly this has been a super fun week. I really have enjoyed all the dress up days and activities that we have had for the students. I feel like they have had a good time all week. Plus we actually got some work done also. I don't have a ton of things to share this week but I will try to let you know what we are doing.
Language Arts
This week has been a test week. They have been taking their Unit 3 test. We were able to complete the test on Wednesday. We took a small portion on Monday, another on Tuesday and finished on Wednesday. I will send home results next week after I have the 3 students who have been gone this week catch up at take the test. Tomorrow I am giving them class time to read their book report book or work on their book report. I will hand out the paper they are to use to those who are finished and have them begin. Their book report is due on February 25th so they have some time left but we need to be sure that all students are completing the reading part. Monday we will begin Unit 4 and we will have spelling tests and end of the week tests like normal.
Math
This week in math we learned how to estimate double-digit problems. We use the rounding method, but we did learn what compatible numbers are and that we can use those too. They are just friendly numbers that are easy to work with. We will also do a lot of work on Successmaker. The students are really starting to show some progress when they actually spend their time focusing on it and working the problems. Next week we will focus on learning how to use the area model to work double-digit problems. I am excited for them to learn that strategy.
Social Studies
Tomorrow is their first Map Test over the Southeast states. I hope I have everyone making an effort on this. It is important for them to learn. We will also end lesson one in Chapter 7 . We have been learning about the Cherokee Native Americans so far. We learned how they lived and survived and what changes they had to make when the Europeans moved into their area. We also learned what they lived in and how they made decisions.
Auction
You will find an Auction letter in your child's folder today. We have not received many donations. The sheet shows many ways to donate. The basket item is super cool one. It is a 3-D printer with the filament. We will also be doing a silent auction item from our classroom. The parents have chosen a Cornhole Set. The kids will be making the bean bags here in the classroom. Please any donation large or small will be helpful to make our auction items a success for the school!
Grandparent Mass
Tomorrow is Grandparent's Mass. This year this looks different when it comes to dismissal. We are dismissing the students at 1:00PM from school. They will need to be picked up here by the grandparent/special guest and taken to the church for Mass. Mass will begin at 1:30. The dress code for tomorrow is Mass clothes. We have had fun dressing up this week but now it is time to look our BEST for tomorrow. What a great way to celebrate the end of our Super week! Praying together with the people we love!!
Absences
I will be gone Monday afternoon due to Molly having a follow up appointment on her shoulder. She is doing awesome and I took her back to school this week and she has gotten along great with help from her friends. On Tuesday I will be gone all day due to my last behavior class. I am ready for this class to be over. It is hard to be gone so much. I will need to be gone after Spring break for a couple days due to my Mom having knee replacement also.
Well, I hope everyone has a great weekend! I am looking forward to relaxing this weekend. Then next week will be short for me due to my absences. Please be sure your children are reading their book report books so they can have plenty of time to work on the Sketchbook project.
Gob Bless,
Mrs. Sickels
