Dear Parents,

Happy Thursday! It is a happy Thursday seeing that this is probably the only day of the week we will be in school. No decision has been made for tomorrow yet but be watching. I know BUNN is shutting down tomorrow and they NEVER shut down. I am not sure I have a lot to put in this blog but I will do what I can. We will be referring to this week as Snow Week. I will say I love snow days but not this many in one week. I didn't ask for all this snow. One snowstorm would be enough for me.

Language Arts

Well, we are going to be well off track for a bit. Since we only had one day this week I started this story differently. Usually I introduce the story and build their background knowledge then we read. The kids say, this is the day we are going to talk a lot! They are not wrong. This story we are going to read is on The Beatles. It will take 2 days to read this story so I did not want to start it until I had two positive days in a row. So my guess is that will be Monday. We had a spelling pretest today and worked on decoding. They have a spelling worksheet to complete also. We will continue with our talking next week.

Book Report

I assigned a book report to them last Friday. I told them they had to tell me the book they were reading by this Friday. Well, since we have been gone all week I will give them until next Wednesday to report a book to me. I have had 7 students report a book to me and 2 have already completed their book over the snow days we had. They are now working on some pages of their sketchbook.

Math

They learned the standard algorithm for multiplication on Thursday and Friday of last week. I decided since we have been out so long we needed a little review on it. They have a worksheet they are working on to practice this strategy. This worksheet makes them deal with money, which is easy. Next week we will begin a dress rehearsal or review for this topic.

Social Studies

We finished out lesson 2 today and the students are working on a worksheet over what we have read. I think most of them completed it during class but a few may have some left to do. I plan on them taking their first Southeast Map Test next Wednesday during Map Skills. They need to be studying their maps. They have some practice maps they can use to help them study.

Rosary

We had a rosary for Perry, Iowa planned for Friday afternoon. I am sure that will no longer be taking place. We will bump it to sometime next week. I know we will still do it because it is super important that we pray for the community. They will continue to deal with so much trauma for a very long time. The least we can do is continue to pray for them.

Again, please watch for news of school tomorrow later tonight. If we are not here I will see everyone on Monday. I hope everyone has a great weekend! I hope you can get out and enjoy the snow at some point. Be safe!
