Dear Parents,
Happy Thursday!! I can't say it feels like I just wrote one of these cause I have not. It has been like 3 weeks since the last one. Wow, how time flies when you're having fun. We had conferences and then Spring Break. I hope everyone enjoyed their break. I went to Texas to my cousin Jennifer's in Blanco. I had a great time. It is always a joy to spend time with her. I already can't wait to go back. We have come back and been doing a pretty decent job getting back into a routine. I told them this was the beginning of the end. We have started the countdown to the end of the year because there are no more breaks. Some had not thought about it and were shocked. Others still think it is a long time away.
Language Arts
We came back and finished up the last story in Module 4. The story was about St. Augustine, Florida. We took the end of week test for that story yesterday. Today they took Day 1 of the Module 4 test. This one is on paper and is longer than a weekly test. I split it into 3 sections. We will finish it up on Monday. We will begin the next Module on Tuesday or Wednesday depending on how much time the book reports take to share.
Math
We finished up Area this week, which means we have completed the standard and benchmark for those skills. We started Division today. I love it when I tell them something is easy peasy and then when they actually see that it is, they get all excited. Today was one of those days. I told them it was the easiest lesson in this topic.. We will keep plugging through this topic. I hope to have it completed and tested over by ISASP Tests in April.
Social Studies
They came back to working on a study guide. We completed that and took the test today. Tomorrow they will correct those tests and I will introduce Chapter 9. It will also be over the Midwest states. We will work out way pretty quickly through this chapter also. For the map testing we will add the capitals to the map key and test over states and capitals in a couple of weeks. when finished with this chapter we will slide right into the Southwest states.
Spirit Day
Tomorrow Friday the 21st is a spirit day. You can pay $1.00 to wear sweats. It is a perfect day to wear them.
Harry Potter Presentation
My daughter, Josie, and her husband had a wedding in Ireland in December. They spent some time in London touring the Harry Potter Museum. She is coming down tomorrow to present her photos and show the kids about the filming of the movies. Her pictures are really good and amazed me at how they could film an entire movie from such small sets. I hope they enjoy it.
Author Visit
We will have an author Visit us on Tuesday the 25th. You received a flyer a while ago about it. Hannah Rogers who is a 6th or 7th grader herself will share her process of writing her story and getting it published. The kids will recognize her from church.
Field Trip
There is a form in today's folder about a field trip we will be taking on Thursday, April 4th to Des Moines. Please fill out the form and return. Thank you.
Reconciliation
We will have Reconciliation with Father Patrick on Monday morning the 24th for Lent.
I am thankful we missed the snowstorm yesterday. I am ready for that business to be done. We need some nice days to really enjoy playing outside. Plus I am ready to spend some weekends reading outside. I very much liked my 80 degree weather in Texas. I even got a tad bit of sun. I hope you all enjoy your weekend whatever you do. I get to spend some time with my granddaughter! I am looking forward to that. It will have been a couple weeks since I saw her last.
God Bless,
Mrs. Sickels
