Dear Parents,
Happy Thursday! We only have like 10 weeks of school left. Time is dwindling quickly. I know to the kids it is still a long way away but not to the teacher. It seems like it is just right around the corner. I really have to watch what I am teaching and how much time I am spending so I am sure to complete what I need to accomplish by the end of the year. This has been a good year. I am really enjoying all of the students.
Language Arts
Wow, due to Spring Break we have really stretched this story out a long way. We will wrap it up tomorrow. They will take their spelling Post Test and end of the week Test. We have also been writing a Dollars for Scholars essay on "What Education Means to Me". One student in the class will win $50.00 based on their essay. We do this contest every year. It is grades 4-8 who participate. It is a guarantee that one person from here will win, because it is "per classroom". Next week we will begin the next story and I will assign the students their last book report.
Math
We did our first division basic fact test this week. It kind of freaked some of them out for sure. I tried to go over fact families with them before they took the first one. Then during math I focused on fact families and what they are and we started making them. Tomorrow we will begin our first lesson over division. I told them not to worry I try to make things as easy as possible.
Social Studies
We have begun the next Unit in the Midwest. The students have taken their first map test and did very well compared to other regions. We have begun the chapter focusing on the Great Lakes and the Waterways that connect the Mississippi River to the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes. We also discussed how the lakes were formed. We moved pretty quickly through the first lesson. This will continue to be the pattern until the end of the year.
Spirit Day
Tomorrow is a Spirit Day! Pay $1.00 to wear sweats for the day. It looks to be a damp and chilly day so it's a perfect day for sweats! I used my sweats pass today and will pay my $1.00 for jeans tomorrow.
Permission Form
You will find a permission form in today's folder for the Cross Walk. It is next Thursday the 28th. Anyone is welcome to join us. The students walk with their Lenten Angels to the church. We are covering the Stations of the Cross on this walk. We stop along the way to honor the first few stations. We finish the stations at the Church. The students will need to wear a white shirt that day. If you don't have a plain white shirt just wear white and we will turn the shirt around for the picture. We take a school photo of all the students in the church in the shape of the cross. This photo will then be available for purchase.
Seder Meal
The Seder Meal is also on Thursday the 28th. We walk the kids through the last supper with Jesus. This is a day where there will be no sack lunches allowed unless you have a registered food allergy with the Kitchen staff. All students are expected to eat what is served. This year we will be having a turkey sandwich.
I hope everyone had a great Spring Break. I went nowhere, but did things around my house. I feel super refreshed both here and at home from break. Molly was here all week with me and we had a great time. Then to come back and start the week with Reconciliation also made me feel energized and refreshed. I feel like the kids were ready to get back into the swing of a routine also. Some of them even voiced that. One said they were bored over break, one said they were ready to get back to doing work. I loved hearing that. Have a great weekend whatever you do. The weather is going to be not so fun sounds like.
God Bless,
Mrs. Sickels
