Dear Parents,
Happy Thursday!! It is almost Friday! Hooray!! That also brings Easter Weekend and hopefully some family dinners. My family is all coming to my house. I am looking forward to hosting them. I hope the weather is nice for Sunday. The students have all been great this week. They are very ready for Easter so they can have what they gave up again. I have to agree with them, I am also ready.
Language Arts
We are in Module 6 week 2 and it has 2 different stories to read this week. We covered one of them this week, it was called Weird and Wonderous Rocks. It really was rather interesting. It talked about some tourist sites that have rocks as their main attraction. They learned about ringing rocks in Pennsylvania, eternal flame falls in New York, and moving rocks in California. All of it was new to me. I didn't know about any of it. I think the kids knowing this made them more interested because I was learning with them. We looked up each place on the interactive TV and watched 2-3 minute videos about each one.
This week we had a tough spelling list. It is looking at the /j/ sound spelled -ge or dge ( judge and manage). We also are studying the /s/ sound spelled with -ce ( furnace, since, and glance). The grammar lessons are on Adverbs. The 2nd story we will read next week is on Poetry. This will take us another 3-4 days to finish out the "week". Spelling post test will be next Thursday or Friday.
Math
We have been working on division this week. We have focused on estimating quotients. I have taught them how to do this using a multiplication table. They caught on quite well. Tomorrow we will work with bigger numbers doing the same thing. It will be a little harder! We will get through it. I have faith. They have done a great job this year learning some "bigger" things.
Social Studies
We only have one more lesson to cover in this chapter and then we will take another test. It has gone quickly since the last test. I have to move a little quicker to get things done. The students have honestly embraced the idea of moving faster to get through more content. I am super happy with them. They will be taking their next test on Friday of next week.
Good Friday
We will be praying the Rosary at 2:00 on Friday in the gym. This is our final activity to celebrate our Lenten Season. The 8th graders are the ones that will be leading the Rosary.
** I also told the kids I was wearing jeans and a St. Malachy t-shirt tomorrow and if anyone wanted to join me and wear the same thing we would take a picture. Just a little Good Friday fun.
I wish all of you a very blessed Easter! Congratulations to Silas as he joins the church this weekend. It has been a long process for him and I am very proud of him. He along with Adalyn Jay and Maddox Brownrigg will also join at Easter Vigil on Saturday night. I am unable to attend. I will be at the Easter Vigil Mass in Adel because my son-in-law is also joining the church this weekend. What a glorious time.
I hope everyone has a great celebration and I will see them on Monday.
God Bless,
Mrs. Sickels
