Dear Parents,
Happy Thursday!!! Also Happy last blog day. This will be my last blog for the year. I have a lot of things to report on today. I am going to try to give you a run down of what to expect the last whole week of school. I still cannot believe it is here. I know we have all week but it will go quickly. I know the kids don't think so but I do. I will be super sad to see this group of kids go. I have loved everything about this. They have all grown academically and in maturity. I am just so very very proud of all of them.
Language Arts
We finished Charlie and the Chocolate Factory today. The kids seemed to really enjoy reading the book. I am very happy we shared this book together. They are finishing up some work on comprehension from the story. Tomorrow they will do a cross word puzzle with partners for fun. Monday I have a one page test over the book that they will complete.
Thursday the 23rd I will show the 1971 movie to them. I have popcorn, candy to put in the popcorn, and drinks being provided and two moms coming to help. They will spend the morning watching the movie after their "Big Map Test". This is my favorite day! It is hard for me not to sing along to all the songs in the movies as it plays.
Math
We are finishing the year with fractions. This week we are learning about equivalent fractions. Next week we will learn to add and subtract fractions with like denominators. There will be no test over this topic. They will do worksheets to show me they can do the work. They have taken their last set of Basic Fact tests this week. The improvement was amazing. It really showed in their FAST testing scored for math. You will find those scored in today's folder.
Social Studies We are finishing up talking about the West Region. We have covered the climate and the resources. The biggest thing we have left for them is the Map testing. They will test Wednesday over the States and Capitals of the West. Then on Thursday morning at 8:30 they will test over all 50 States and Capitals. Some of the students have not done a good job studying for each region so this big one is going to be difficult for them. My advice is to start studying now!
Rainbow Park Trip
You will find a permission form today in the folder for a trip to Rainbow Park. Due to not having enough funds from last year's auction to get a bus to take them to Boone Scenic Valley Railroad like we had hoped, we are going to spend the afternoon at the park. We will be walking over to the park about 12:45. We plan to just let them play and enjoy each other's company. We will need an adult there with a car in case of an emergency and to take some equipment from the school with us. We have looked at the weather and the forecast does not look promising. We plan to treat the kids to a drink and a snack at the park. If it rains, we will watch a movie here at school and enjoy each other's company or play games.
*They will need to bring a water bottle that day to take to the park.
*They need to wear appropriate shoes for walking to park and back and playing.
*Please fill out orange permission form and return tomorrow.
All parents are welcome to attend! You can come walk with us or just meet us there. We plan to leave school at 12:45 and will leave Rainbow park to return at 2:30. We could use some parents to walk with us if you could.
Wednesday, May 22nd
We will be going to the High School in afternoon to practice for our concert. Please fill out the green permission form and return tomorrow.
Thursday May 23rd
Please send an extra bag with your child that day. We will be cleaning out their desks and sending all their things home. At least what is left of their things.(haha)
May 24th Last Day
We will begin this day outside spraying Silly String on Mrs. Clark and Mrs. Worley. This was earned from the Glow-a-thon. Then we will begin our Field day. We begin by meeting at the playground across the street for the obstacle course. After that the students will be split into groups and will spend the morning competing in games. There will be an 8th grade clap out at noon and then kids will be dismissed for the summer. Dismissal is 3 hours early. Everyone is welcome to attend any or all of this day with us.
Spirit Day
Friday, May 17th is a Spirit Day. You can pay $1.00 to wear hats or sweats that day. This is our last Spirit Day for the year.
Library Books
All Library books are due Wednesday, May 22nd. Please be sure to check with your child about books.
Congratulations
I have several people to congratulate. Brooklyn for winning Dollars for Scholars Essay Contest. Mary won 1st place in the Stated for her Fire Prevention Poster and Ali for winning 3rd place in the Money poster contest for the bank. Again so proud of these kids!
Whew! I think that is everything. If you think I have forgotten something please email me and let me know! It is hard to keep everything straight at the end. I feel like a chicken with my head cut off!
It has been a great year! I look forward to enjoying your kids this last week. I wish them the BEST summer ever!! I will spend mine on my porch reading. I told the kids since Molly wasn't coming home for the summer I would be alone. I told them to stop by a visit if they saw me outside! I would love it. I will be anxious for my Grandma duties in July! I just can't wait. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas. I will post a picture when I can.
Have a great summer!!
God Bless,
Mrs. Sickels
