Dear Parents,
Happy Thursday!! Only 2 more blogs after today! WOW, how is that for perspective. My time with your kids is dwindling, and I am honestly getting sad about it. I have truly enjoyed watching all of them grow this year. They have matured in many ways. Academically for sure. They have learned the importance of doing their work and doing it well. I am super proud of all of them.
Language Arts
We are still working on their Personal Narrative. Today they worked in partners to edit and revise. Next week we will finish it up, print and share. I can't wait to hear them. We are also continuing in Charlie and Chocolate factory. They are reading chapter 14 today and drawing a picture of Willy Wonka as described in the book. Charlie has found the last golden ticket and they are at the factory ready to go inside. Chapter 14 is about meeting Willy Wonka for the first time. They all seem to be loving this story. Tomorrow they will do some partner work on a crossword puzzle and answer some questions and I will take those scores of questions for my grade book. I am mainly grading them on comprehension. They are still doing some grammar activities I have just not put them in my grade book. They are either partner activities or we do them as a group. We may finish this story up and get to watch the movie sooner then I normally do. That's okay, I told them we would read the next module in the reading series just for fun because it was over Tall Tales and everyone likes a good Tall Tale.
Book Reports
Book Reports are due tomorrow!! Sounds like some have not finished reading their books. Also some do not have a box yet. I do not have any to help them out. You can use any box that is like a shoe box. As long as it stands up and they can put a scene in it. If the students does not turn it in tomorrow it will be a late slip and it will be due on Monday. If not done on Monday it will be detention. The students have had plenty of time like 8 weeks to work on this project. We will begin sharing next week.
Math
We began a review over division today. They had to complete the first two pages which is problems 1-10. We will finish it tomorrow, check it together on Monday and take a test on Tuesday. Then I plan on digging into fractions. We will do fractions up to the end of they year. We will not test over fractions but we will do worksheets. I will base their progress on the work that they do.
Social Studies
We spent the last two days reading about the Grand Canyon. We talked about erosion. What factors cause erosion and some physical characteristics. We also learned who the first person to see the Grand Canyon was and who the first to travel the Colorado River through the Canyon. We covered a lot of information in one day! We will continue to talk about the Southwest next week. They will take a states and capitals Map Test over this region next Wednesday. It is only 4 states so they should be good. They will not need to study too hard.
Tomorrow is a normal Friday! We are all tired from today. It has seemed hectic yet full of fun due to the Glow Run. I am exhausted because Ms. Surma and I went to the Civic Center last night to see MJ The Musical. It was fantastic! We were 14 again and he was still alive right there on stage! It made a late night for us. We did not get home until after Midnight. So a big coffee was needed this morning. Now I have hit a wall and am ready for bed.
Have a great weekend whatever you do. I have 2 kids coming home this weekend. Molly is coming tonight and Jami tomorrow night. I got to feel my granddaughter kick for the first time last weekend. That was super exciting. I look forward to having them both home. Only thing to be better is if the 3rd one would join!
God Bless,
Mrs. Sickels
