Dear Parents,

Happy Thursday!!! Happy end of the year. This is my last blog for this class. If I have left things unanswered please email me and ask. Then I will know I left something out. I told the kids we would be working up to the last minute. I have to keep these kids busy for sure. We have not begun sharing book reports yet. My plan is to start tomorrow afternoon.

Language Arts

We are finishing the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory today. The kids were assigned to read the last 3 chapters and to do the last 3 sheets in their packet. They have enjoyed it and can't wait for the movie, which we will watch next Wednesday. Next week we may read another story out of their language arts book so we are keeping busy but we will not do any testing. Again, I have to keep them very busy or it's chaos.

Math

Today I taught them how to add fractions with like denominators. They love it because it was super easy. I will teach them how to subtract them tomorrow. Again they will love it and find it easy. Next week we will spend a couple days on equivalent fractions. This is a little bit harder. I hope for them to have a little understanding before they go away for the summer.

Social Studies

We finished up talking about the resources of the West Region today. We will take the Map test over the west's states and capitals tomorrow. The final test over all 50 states/capitals is on Thursday of next week. So they have a week to study and refresh their memory on the first few regions we studied last fall. We will read about the Tlingit Native Americans in Alaska next week to end Social Studies.

Last Day

The last day is field day. It will start at 9:00 AM. We have 7 different games to participate in for the morning. Lunch is a cook-out provided by the PTO. YAY!! This is new this year. They are grilling out hamburgers. They will be fed before we send them home. I guess unless they don't eat hamburgers. They get out 3 hours early that day so Noon is when our dismissal starts.

Locker/desk clean-out

I will have them clean out their desks and lockers next Thursday afternoon. Please send an extra bag with them In case they have more than their school bag can handle. I have been trying to get them to take sweatshirts and extra things home already.

Well, here we are at the end. I can't believe it is that time already. It really snuck-up on me. As challenging as this class can be I have enjoyed having each and everyone of them. They have given me gray hair but also have made me smile and laugh. I wish you all the BEST summer. I want them to have some fun but also don't forge to read every now and then and think of me.

I will spend my summer reading and enjoying Maddyn as much as I can. I will be moving Molly June. That may be a trying week for me, leaving my baby, 5 hours away. I am so excited to watch her get her first classroom ready and then begin her adult job in the Fall. Crazy to think all my kids have jobs in schools. Don't blink because before long you will be saying good-bye to yours. Wedding planning with Molly will also be a fun summer hobby. Again have a great, safe summer and I will see everyone in the Fall for 5th grade.
