Dear Parents,
Happy Thursday! Can you believe it? It is May!!! I feel like it should just be March or beginning of April. Which I know the weather has me feeling that way! We only have 2 more Thursdays of blog! Just seems hard to believe. I still have a lot I want to do with them in 15 and 1/2 days! We will have to work hard to get there.
Language Arts
This week we are reading a feel good story about Owen and Mzee (Mzay). It is about an aldabra tortoise and a hippo becoming friends. It is a true story. You can google the names and find the story. It was written by a 6 year old girl, her father, and the person in charge of Owen and Mzee. In grammar we are working on the many ways commas are used focusing on direct speech, compound sentences, things in a series, city and state, and dates. The vocab strategy this week was on suffixes -ed and -ly. Tomorrow is a normal Friday. Please be sure to have them study their yellow packet and spelling words.
Book Report**
Remember I changed the due to date for the book report from Monday, May 9 to Monday, May 16th! An extra week is great for everyone! I can't wait to see what everyone is doing!
Math
We are working on the standard algorithm of division. We will spend today and tomorrow doing it also. I plan to start on Multiples and factors next week. Then we will move on into fractions. They are all excited about that. I feel like these topics require more work than the others, so they won't like it much after we are started!! There will not be another math test. It takes 4 days to properly test the students so we are just going to learn, learn, learn!!
Social Studies
We are finishing up the Midwest. I plan to finish it up next week. We will than have a Map Test over the 12 states and move into the Southwest. We are not testing over this chapter due to lack of school days. We will read and enjoy the last two Regions only discussing the resources and products that region supplies and the Native Americans known for the area. We will also Map test over those regions.
Lap-a-thon
Well, due to the lovely weather we were predicted to have, Lap-a-thon was
postponed to Monday when it is to be a sunny day in the 70's or 80's depending on what sight you look at. Keep raising money!
Spirit Day
Tomorrow is a Spirit Day! Pay $1.00 to wear a hat or sweats! The temp is to be lower 60's and rain. The more dollars we bring in the better!
I hope everyone has a nice relaxing weekend! Moms, I hope you are completely pampered on Sunday!! I have Josie graduating with her Masters in Storm Lake this weekend. I will be traveling there to watch her then celebrating her at her house. So glad she is done. I so know why I have chosen not to get mine! My mother's day will be spent with all three girls.
God Bless,
Mrs. Sickels
