Dear Parents,
Happy Thursday!! Here we are again. It is another Thursday. We have had some illnesses this week. Please remember to keep your child at home if they are sick. They must be fever free for 24 hours before returning. These are just reminders of our expectations. I think Strep is definitely out there. Sounds like lots of other things also. We just want to be respectful of all students.
Language Arts
We have finished Module 2. We took the end of the story test yesterday. I will get that one graded and in folders for next week. We started our Module 2 test today. They took the first part today. I had them read the story twice before reading any questions. I am hoping that helped with understanding. We will take the second part on Monday and the third part on Tuesday. Wednesday we will start the first story in Module 3.
Please remember Book Reports are due Monday. If it is not done it will be a late slip. If it is not done Tuesday it is a detention. I also will begin taking off points for being late.
Math
We have mainly been working on Biztown stuff for math. They have done some Teller computations, we have written checks and filled out deposit slips. These are all the things they need to know how to do for tomorrow. We have gotten together with the 5th grade, we have divided them into their businesses and done the work that needed to be completed before Friday. We are all ready to go. On Monday we will review Partial Product which we started before we began Biztown. Then we will move on into some strategies to multiply.
Social Studies
We are moving through our 2nd chapter of the Northeast. I have introduced them to their State and Capitals song. I am very sorry for that. They can get to it via Youtube. They will most likely drive you crazy with it. It is a great way to learn all 50 states and their capitals. The lessons in this chapter are full of information. They tend to just skim the surface of some much bigger topics like slavery, The Civil War, and Women's Suffrage. I will introduce these topics to them but that is about it. We do not really dive into each one in depth. I have been trying to do a little more each class time with this class. I am trying to make it easier to be sure and cover all the regions equally. I tend to have to hustle through the Southwest and the West towards the end of the year. I am trying to make it better.
Field Trip
Our trip is on tomorrow!! It has come up very quickly. We need to be leaving St. Malachy at 7:30 AM in the morning. We have to arrive there by 8:45 so you can be trained. Please have your child at school by 7:20 AM. Due to the amount of people going, I don't have many kids per car. Don't forget to dress professionally in Mass attire and bring a sack lunch. No carbonated drinks for the students please. It will be a very fun-filled busy day. Just a reminder you will not be in the same business as your child. You will be working with other kids. All of them will be St. Malachy students. We are attending this with another school. We have completed all the work that is needed beforehand. Thank you for all the things you have done to prepare for this trip. I know it is a lot, but it is a great experience.
Outdoor Classroom
Mrs. Ramsey has started a campaign for an outdoor classroom. There is a flyer in the folder today talking about. I hope this is something that interests you and you can make a donation. It would benefit students for years to come.
I am working at the bookstore again this weekend if anyone would like to come see me. I will be there from 10 - 4. Just come in and read with me if you want. Great way to get Book-It minutes. Sounds like the weather is to be amazing for the weekend. I hope you all get out an enjoy it before we lose it for good. Thanksgiving looks to have some weather changes.
I look forward to seeing some of you tomorrow. Have a great weekend.
God Bless,
Mrs. Sickels
